About the Exakt Precision Tools Mini Circular Saw

The EC 310 N Exakt saw

The Exakt Precision Tools mini circular saw has existed in one form or another since 2002, when designer Neil Refson registered the company and started producing his innovative new tool. Now, nine years on, the Exakt Saw is a widely popular tool and is available across Europe.

Over the years, this small circular saw has evolved and changed in minor ways, such as the addition of a guard lock and the availability of blade options. With the release of the EC-310 N model, a number of ergonomic and physical improvements were addressed, most notably the Switch and Guard-Lock (see details of updates here).

While these updates made the saw easier and more comfortable to use, a significant ergonomic setback was simply the circumference of the saw body - the EC310 saw does not have a profiled body and can be difficult for some users to work with for extended periods.

Thus, a whole new body design was conceived - the EC320. The EC320 features a whole new profiled body design, with controls designed for ease and comfort of use.

The EC320 is now the flagship mini-saw from Exakt - with all of the innovative, precision features of previous models, the improvements in control of the EC310-N and now a fully re-designed body shape - the EC320 is the most advanced, easy to use Exakt saw yet!

A Whole New Body

The new, profiled body has been designed to improve the ergonomics, handling and appearance of the saw.

With recessed badges, switch and a rubberised finger grip on the underside, the body of the EC320 saw offers a significant improvement over the EC310 saws in terms of ergonomics and handling. It remains comfortable to hold and use for extended periods of cutting.

Improving the Guard-lock

The original guard lock was a late addition to the Exakt saw, in order to comply with EU directives. For the EC310-N, the lock was completely altered so that it can be held without reaching the fingers around the saw – the new design positions the lever under the index finger, allowing it to be held easily and lightly.

For the EC320, this design was taken a step further, with the lock now being integrated into the body design, rather than screwed on to an existing body. This means that the lock now sits more flush with the body, making it easier to press and hold to release the guard.

Improving the Switch

The switch of the EC310-N Exakt saw was significantly altered to be semi-latching – when the switch is pulled back, it slots into a position that keeps it on with the lightest touch, but still springs off when released. This offered an enormous improvement on previous models, where the strength of the spring had to be held back by finger strength alone to run the tool.

With the EC320, the design has been further improved. The switch is partially inset to the body and is now easier to hold, slotting into a comfortable position when in use.

Further improvements to the saw (EC320 Exclusive):

  • Completely re-designed Storage and Carry Case, with significantly improved accessory storage
  • Improved air-flow and dust removal due to the re-designed internal fan
  • Inset decals (badges on the body), which improve grip while remaining comfortable

Further improvements to the saw (shared with EC310-N):

  • Re-designed guard – the metal outer giving it greater rigidity and better access to change saw blades
  • Improved fitting system for the vacuum hose
  • Printed collar replacing the depth stickers
  • New V-guard – a simplified clip on system
